Below is important information when replacing the Cat/DPF on a 1.5 Citroen, Fiat, Peugeot, Toyota or Vauxhall (Euro 6)
Failure of this type of Euro 6 Catalytic Converter (Cat) & Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) combined unit on the 1.5 Citroen, Peugeot, Toyota & Vauxhall vehicles is fairly common. Firstly you may notice smoke and a strange smell from the engine bay and excessive smoke/soot from the exhaust tailpipe. The engine management light (EML) may illuminate with the fault codes P2002 - Particulate Filter (efficiency too low) and/or P0421 - Pre Catalytic Converter (component absent).
What goes wrong?
The most common cause of the failure is a faulty AdBlue injector fills the void between the upper Catalytic Converter monolith and the lower Diesel Particulate Filter substrate with urea (DEF/AdBlue) which either cracks the monolith or dislodges the substrate.
Once this type of failure has occurred the replacement of the Cat/DPF is the only option but the AdBlue injector MUST be replaced at the same time otherwise the new unit will almost certainly fail in the same manner within a short period of time.
If the AdBlue injector is not replaced at the same as fitting the new DPF then any future warranty claims may be rejected.
